So, Why Maths Tutoring?
Employers never fail to value a great set of Mathematics grades whether it be GCSE, IB, A Level etc. as they are indicative of a logical, problem-solving and analytical skill set.
It's no wonder that Mathematics is increasingly the most popular choice at A Level, according to an Ofsted report. Yet, the same report shows that there is a shortage of specialist mathematics teachers, whom schools fail to recruit or retain. Schools that identify this issue do not take the steps to equip their non-specialist mathematics teachers, resulting in a weaker mathematics education offered to pupils.
Even in vocational courses, the value of a solid mathematics education should not be undermined; so where colleges lack strategy in promoting and understanding numeracy, tutoring can bridge the gap.

Statistics show that the education workforce crisis in the UK is having an impact on pupil outcomes. A third of teachers leave the classroom within five years after qualifying and don't return.
In 2024, 16.7% of GCSE Mathematics students received a grade 7/A or above, a decrease from 17.2% in 2023 when pre-pandemic standards had already been reintroduced.
Another cause for concern is that 2023 GCSE results saw an increase in the number of students failing to achieve a grade 4 in English or Mathematics which meant an increase in the number of resits taken in November 2023.
Of the pupils resitting GCSE Mathematics, less than a quarter passed. The vast majority failed.
How can I help my child to beat the odds?
Simply put, there is no secret or special formula. It comes down to carefully structured additional hours of focused study. Here's what the research says.
FACT: The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) identifies that if tutoring is high-quality and aligned to classroom teaching, one-to-one tuition can result in up to 5 months additional progress. Similarly, small groups of 2-5 can achieve up to 4 months additional progress.
FACT: The most effective study plans are created when tutors use students' school curriculums and work closely with teachers to identify and address key knowledge gaps that may have been missed in class, providing the greatest benefit for students.
FACT: Robust support from tutors in the organisation and oversight of strategically planned, school-aligned tuition is essential. With schools increasingly burdened by workload pressures, the responsibility of managing these additional hours must fall to tutors.
At Alpha Kappa Tuition, we recognise this need and go beyond expectations, offering a seamless communication stream from teacher-to-tutor-to-student. The result is a harmonious and boosted education, optimised to produce success every time.
Bottom line: The right support can make all the difference, often being the gap between two grades - an impact that can have a profound influence on your child's academic journey, as outlined previously.
Don’t wait for progress to happen - take action now and give your child the tools to succeed.
Meet Your Tutor
Hello and welcome to Alpha Kappa Tuition! My name is Anisa and I'm a Mathematics undergraduate studying at Durham University with a huge passion for teaching. Once an intimidated student who grimaced at the subject, I've learnt ways to approach mathematics that allow me to appreciate and enjoy it so much so that it became my main focus of study! Maths doesn't have to be the 'difficult subject' and I'm here to show you and your child that.My journey in tutoring mathematics has been nothing short of diverse. As someone who wants to share the joy from problem solving and who relishes in seeing their students thrive, there has never been a point in my life where I haven't been involved in tutoring of some form. From the age of 16, through volunteering opportunities and work, I’ve tutored in all sorts of environments - from after school classes and targeted group work to online one-to-one tutoring. My plethora of experience can be viewed in my CV which you can request to see.My teaching style centres around seamless integration between the classroom and tuition. A core belief of mine is that tutoring can only be as effective as it's organisation, so I go the extra mile to understand what is missing in students' education through communication with their Maths teachers. This has been a tried and proven fact and it guarantees that what students learn outside of school hours perfectly aligns with classroom teaching, which boosts progress by up to 5 months! Furthermore, I love to involve themes of encouragement and independent thinking by carefully crafting questions that allow students to arrive at their own conclusions; this preserves the learning of concepts to ensure they are well consolidated rather than memorised and repeated. For your child to get a feel for my teaching style, please do book a trial session. Let’s get stuck in and see your child soar through school! 😊
Molly B. received maths tuition from me to help her get into the university course she desired. Not only did she exceed her expectations, she landed an offer to enroll at the prestigious University of Glasgow, a Russell Group University, to study Architecture - the best course she could have hoped for.
Molly B. - tutored for 6 months.
Case Studies
Take a look at just a few of the students who have done brilliantly for themselves, a great feat they worked hard for under the guidance of Anisa.
'Ava thought you were a great tutor and she had benefited from your teaching.'Ava G. had the goal of getting into the independent sixth-form she desired. In tutoring Ava to prepare for entrance exams, she gained a lot of confidence, composure and skill to help her perform well under pressure. As a result, Ava got into a boarding school even better than her initial choice and went on to study A Levels at Bromsgrove School.
Ava G. - after having received intense tutoring for as little as 1 month.
Izaz A. was not satisfied with his current grades and wanted to boost his grade C to a grade A in A Level Mathematics in order to open up his choices for university. Through a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication, Izaz achieved an incredible grade A and went on to study Politics with Economics at the London School of Economics, setting himself up for a very bright future.

FSM Scheme
The Free School Meal (FSM) Scheme aims to make tuition more accessible to students eligible for Free School Meals/Pupil Premium.
To the core, Alpha Kappa Tuition maintains its mantra - Maths Mastery for All. Founded by a student who was eligible for Free School Meals throughout their time at school and understands the impact it has, Alpha Kappa Tuition aims to make tuition as accessible as possible. Organisations like The Sutton Trust have shown there exists a wealth disparity between those who receive tuition versus those that don't, and there is no denying that there exists many barriers for students from lower income backgrounds. Unfortunately, that leaves a whole lot of pupils unable to make full use of their potential; yet it has been shown that investing in them produces immensely positive results.
One major example is that under the National Tutoring Programme (NTP), benefits received by disadvantaged students were huge. It improved the confidence of pupils struggling in school and when schools aimed to ensure 50-70% of students enrolled onto the NTP were Pupil Premium eligible, it was found to have a positive and significant impact in the subject they received tutoring in. Regrettably, following the recovery from the pandemic, the NTP no longer receives funding and has been disbanded.
